About the Advance Workshop
Who: The Advance Workshop has been designed as the natural next step after completing Parts 1 and 2. Although you don’t need to be a Part 2 grad to take this course, you’ll need to be comfortable with the content we cover in Parts 1 and 2 (outlined below) to get the most out of this workshop. We are limiting registration to 10 students to ensure a high level of personal attention.
When: 5 consecutive Monday evenings, from 6-9pm, beginning January 22, 2018 (the last workshop will be on February 19th).
Where: Week one will take place on-location at a park, usually in north Wilmington. Weeks 2 through 5 will take place at Studio on Market: 219 North Market Street, Wilmington DE, 19801. It’s a safe, beautiful location with plenty of parking and lots of room to learn and practice.
What: Each week we’ll dive into a variety of topics designed to improve your photography, add to your technical toolkit, and sharpen your creative mind. You’ll receive weekly, challenging assignments that will guide you in your practice; and the following week, you’ll receive personalized and genuine feedback to help you fine tune your photography.
Here's an overview of what we'll cover:
Week One: We’ll really nail down everything that we learned in Parts 1 and 2, but you’ll practice shooting with your own gear, with a model, on-location. We’ll ensure you’re fast and comfortable with the basics: aperture priority mode, white balance, choosing ISO, using different autofocus modes, adjusting exposure compensation, and the fundamentals of shooting in ambient light.
Week Two: We’ll work on building stronger compositions, how to use layering to create more interesting images and become a visual storyteller, and how to capture moments, even within posed photos.
Week Three: We’ll talk about the power of perspective, and using light and shadow to create dramatic and dynamic photos.
Week Four: You’ll learn how to take your images across the line by using Adobe Lightroom to make post production an extension of the creative process. The Advance Workshop includes lifetime access to Dan’s Adobe Lightroom Crash Course ($49 value) on Dazzle Training, where he explains the basics of post production workflow, file management, and Lightroom controls, broken down into individual videos totaling about 90 minutes of training. We’ll provide login information once you register so you can begin learning and practicing, to ensure you get the most out of week four of this workshop.
Week Five: Flash! We’ll scratch the surface of the incredible world of off-camera flash: the gear, the tech, and how to get started with creating professional light in just about any environment.
What if I’m new to Adobe Lightroom?
Enrollment in the Advance Workshop includes access to our online class Adobe Lightroom: Crash Course, where you will learn the basics of the software (a $49.95 value). Adobe offers free trials of Lightroom and then the software is $9.99 a month after the trial period expires. Check out the Adobe Creative Cloud website for details.
What if I can’t make one of the weeks?
We strongly encourage you to attend each week, as we will be covering a lot of material in each class session. But we know things happen, so we will be filming the lecture portion of each class session, so we will be able to email a video link where you can catch up if necessary.
What if I don’t have any flash equipment?
You DON’T need to have flash gear for this to work. We will provide any flash equipment that is necessary.
